Children's Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu No-Gi Uniform

What is Children's No-Gi Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu?

Children's no-gi BJJ uses specialized gear designed for young practitioners, with safety and comfort considerations for growing bodies.

Children's no-gi training requires gear that's safe, comfortable, and appropriate for young grapplers. The uniform consists of three main components designed specifically for children:

A children's rashguard is sized for smaller frames and provides protection from mat burn. It should fit snugly but not be too tight, allowing for comfortable breathing and movement. The compression should be gentle rather than restrictive for young bodies.

Children's no-gi shorts are designed without pockets or zippers that could cause injury. They should fit comfortably while staying tight enough that opponents can't grab excess material. Many children's shorts include built-in compression shorts for additional protection.

Spats for children provide leg protection and compression, but the fit should be comfortable rather than restrictive. They should accommodate growing bodies and allow for full range of motion.

When sizing children's no-gi gear, consider both current fit and expected growth. Safety is paramount - gear should fit properly without excess material that could cause tripping or be grabbed inappropriately.

IBJJF No-Gi Competition Rules

International Standards for No-Gi Competition

IBJJF no-gi competitions require tight-fitting gear that prevents opponents from gaining advantages through clothing. Rashguards must be tight-fitting and cover the torso completely, providing adequate coverage without excess material. Shorts must be tight-fitting with no pockets or zippers that could cause injury, and must reach at least halfway down the thigh. Spats and compression wear are allowed but must also be tight-fitting. No loose clothing that could be grabbed is permitted. All clothing must be clean and in good condition. Check current IBJJF rules for any color restrictions that may apply.

What other people asked

Children's no-gi sizing is typically based on age ranges: 7-9 years (120-140cm), 10-12 years (135-155cm), and 13-15 years (150-170cm). However, you should also consider your child's actual height and weight. Always consider growth - buying slightly larger allows room to grow, but too large can be unsafe.
