What it is

The Submitsu Universe is a database of standardised positions and techniques in BJJ. We’ve structured the vast world of BJJ techniques into a navigable, connected system. It’s a single source of truth for technique names, relationships, and resources, so practitioners can explore, learn, and reference from one place.

Rich data environment

We are creating a rich data environment for all BJJ practitioners to use and reference. Not just a list of techniques, but connections, progressions, counters, and links to the best instructional content. It’s for beginners learning the basics, intermediates expanding their game, and advanced practitioners refining their understanding. Everyone benefits from structured, connected knowledge.

Centralisation

There is a vast network of resources across the internet: YouTube, instructionals, gyms, forums. But it’s scattered. Hard to find, hard to compare, hard to know what’s authoritative. We aim to centralise each technique and give users one place to interact from it through our hub. From a technique page, you can see related moves, videos, and pathways without hunting across the web.

Galaxies

We have broken the universe down into galaxies: compartments of connected techniques. Think of them as neighbourhoods: submissions, escapes, guard, mount, side control, etc. Each galaxy groups techniques that share themes or mechanics. They make exploration easier. You can explore “Arm Bars” or “Escapes from Mount” and see how techniques relate within that space.

Tools

We have different tools to view and interact with the connections. The Explore tool lets you navigate technique pathways interactively. Galaxies let you browse by category. Technique hubs bring together all resources for a single move.
